A “Liberating” Snack Bar

To say that last night was “memorable” simply won’t do — it was one of the most beautiful nights of my life. I’m flooded with happiness for Chloe, with love for her family, and with nostalgia for our growing up years. There’s excitement for our futures, too, but for the moment, I’m a slave to memory lane! You’ll get my full recap in a day or two.

On Friday, Lori and Michelle taught you some basics of raw snack-making. Today, I thought it was appropriate to feature one of my very favorite raw snacks: Angela’s Liberate bars. I was lucky enough to weigh in a little as Ange was conceptualizing these, and now that they’re complete, I am so excited about them! The bars are raw, vegan, organic, portable, moderate in sugar, full of nutrition, and absolutely delicious — all of my favorite things! Please welcome the maker of these wonderful snack bars to tell you a little more about them — and then go buy a box or two 😉

Hey there!

My name is Angela Liddon and I am the writer of a healthy living website called Oh She Glows. When Gena asked me to write a guest post on my new gluten-free and raw Glo Bar I was really excited. Over the past year, I have become good friends with Gena and she has been a huge inspiration to me when I transitioned to a vegan diet in 2009.

Last year also had other big life changes in store for me. I opened up my own vegan, organic, and all-natural bakery, Glo Bakery. I actually went to grad school to become a professor of psychology and I realized that academia was the wrong career path for me. I was extremely unhappy in my research position and eventually I found the courage to quit and to try to find a career I was passionate about.[ If you are interested, I wrote a 10 part series on my blog called ‘A Year Can Change A Lot’ about how I found happiness with my career].

I decided to start my own vegan and organic bakery, in response to the popularity of my all-natural and vegan granola bars that I showcased on Oh She Glows. I was unhappy with the long ingredient list of many commercial energy bars and I wanted to create simple and delicious bars with only the best ingredients. Since 2009, I have created over 13 flavours of Glo Bars. After a whopping 23 trials, I recently came out with a Gluten-Free, Vegan, and 93% Raw Glo Bar called Liberate. I was determined to create a gluten-free granola bar that I could be proud of and would be something that many people could enjoy! Liberate is actually my favorite flavor now and I don’t even follow a gluten-free diet.

Liberate is very chewy, a little crunchy, a little soft, and has a flavor that is best described as biting into a delicious piece of banana bread. Because of the intricate drying process involved in making these delicious bars, each bar is a bit like a snowflake- unique in shape, size, form, and texture.

Liberate is packed with:

  • Chia seeds– packed with omega 3 healthy oils, antioxidants, fibre, protein, magnesium, calcium, vit C!
  • Almonds– Omega 6 healthy fats, vitamin E, Vitamin B2, Vitamin K, Magnesium, etcHemp seeds- Omega 3 + 6 healthy fats, high in protein
  • Sunflower seeds– Antioxidants, omega 6 healthy fats, Vitamin B1, magnesium, etc
  • Unsweetened Coconut– Contains iron, calcium, protein, and is antiseptic/antiviral
  • Cinnamon– Helps control blood sugar and cravings
  • Banana– Tons of potassium to keep your muscles happy and stress at bay
  • Dates– Packed with antioxidants

Liberate is just 241 calories per bar, and it is packed with protein (8 grams), fibre (7 grams), potassium (305 mg), Omega-3 (2648 mg) and Omega-6 healthy fats (5064 mg). For the full nutrition information click here.

Thank you Gena for allowing me to share my passion with all of you today!

Thank YOU Angela! I am so surprised (and flattered) that I had something to do with your shift to veganism!

I’ll back soon, with photos. Right now — post-wedding brunch.
