Editorial Policies

The Full Helping is a website dedicated to offering readers high-quality recipes, evidence-based information, and a safe and engaging online space.

About Gena Hamshaw

I’m a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN), an experienced recipe developer, and a published cookbook author. My first career was as a book editor, which informs my commitment to creating clear and compelling written content.

My aim is to provide readers with vegan recipes that are developed thoughtfully and tested with care. As a practicing clinician, I abide by the most rigorous standards of truthfulness and accuracy in my communications.

Recipe testing

I test all recipes that are published on this blog with precision and attention to detail before posting them. Very often, I test the recipes multiple times to assure accuracy and success. The dishes that I share are dishes that I’ve enjoyed in my own home.

Currently, I measure ingredients on both a kitchen scale and in wet/dry cups, so that I can provide ingredient quantities in US and metric amounts.

Photography

Recipes dated 2019 or older may have been photographed by me. Currently, I have the great privilege of working with photographer Trine Rask, who brings the recipes on this blog to life through her beautiful imagery.

Photographer Ashley McLaughlin has also contributed recipe images to the site.

Content updates

I’ve been writing The Full Helping since 2009. In the fifteen years since I started writing this blog, I’ve grown considerably as a recipe developer. To ensure that my content is as high-quality as possible, I reserve the right to revise older recipes. Recipes are marked with both their original date of publication and a “last updated” date. All recipe edits and improvements are undertaken with the goal of giving readers a reliably positive cooking experience.

Errors and corrections

Similarly, I update content on this blog, including nutrition information, on a continual basis. Corrections are made in accordance with:

  • Revisions to nutrition and medical literature
  • Updates to nutrition and health research
  • Updates to my body of knowledge as a healthcare professional or shifts in my perspective as a writer

Originality and attributions

I create original content, inspired by my experiences as an eater and a home cook. If a recipe shared on The Full Helping was created by another author or recipe developer, I note this in the text of a post and/or recipe card.

Commenting policy

The Full Helping is a community-driven blog. Comments on recipes and blog posts are a vital expression of that community. I welcome feedback on recipes in the form of comments and ratings, especially when that feedback is offered with the intention of informing or assisting other readers.

Comments that are abusive, discriminatory, profane, hurtful, or which offer no constructive criticism or meaningful feedback will be removed.

Star ratings on recipes are welcomed and encouraged. Ratings must be accompanied by a comment.

Sponsored content

All content that was created in paid partnership with a brand includes a disclaimer disclosing that working relationship. All opinions are my own. I accept sponsored partnerships on the condition that I genuinely enjoy the product in question.

Affiliate marketing

I participate in certain affiliate programs, including Amazon’s affiliate program. When purchases are made through affiliate links, I receive a small commission. This commission comes at no additional cost to the reader who makes this purchase. As with sponsored content, I only participate in affiliate programs for, or share affiliate links to, products that I use myself and enjoy.

Nutrition information

As a working dietitian, my communication is governed by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Code of Ethics for RDNs. This includes standard 2e, which states that RDNs shall “Provide accurate and truthful information in all communications.”

Accordingly, information on The Full Helping is accurate and truthful to the best of my working knowledge. I’m committed to revising and updating content for accuracy and clarity as is practical and possible.

Nutrition philosophy

This blog reflects the nutrition philosophy of my private practice, The Full Helping Nutrition. This includes a commitment to care that is body-positive, food-positive, culturally competent, evidence-based, and unaffected by nutrition fads or diet trends that are unsupported by evidence.

I create recipes and blog posts with the intention of serving people and animals. Thank you for reading!
