Pure2raw Sunflower Bliss Balls

Happy Friday Eve!

Right about now, I’m at Chloe’s rehearsal dinner, which is being held in her family’s majestic barn upstate. I’m catching up with friends I haven’t seen in years, gabbing away with the friends I do see often, and probably stepping outside every now and again to observe the canopy of stars.

While I do all that, I’m leaving you in the capable hands of Lori and Michelle–the mighty twin chefs of Pure 2 Raw. Since my summer schedule has been nothing if not a test of time management, I asked Lori and Michelle to share a few words about making tasty raw snacks — food that’s portable, easy to prepare, and full of nutrients. They were kind enough to oblige me, and came up with an incredible recipe! I can’t wait to try their Sunflower Bliss Balls — and I suspect you’ll be every bit as excited as I am.

Thank you, Lori and Michelle, for sharing your expertise with us!

Hello Choosing Raw Readers!!!

We are honored and excited that our friend Gena asked us to do a guest post on her blog. For those of you that do not know us we are Lori and Michelle from Pure 2 Raw. Our blog is our personal journey of sharing our struggles and successes of life and finding balance with our health. You will also find we like to play in the kitchen  🙂

We have busy schedules (due to running our own company) as most people do and are always looking for healthy snacks. In addition we want food that travels well because we are always on the go! We also have dietary limitations due to our food allergies, by having food that was safe and on hand was important. We started creating recipes that we enjoyed and thought ‘we need to share these with others who are looking for a healthy snack option too’, which lead us to launch our Pure2raw product line last year.

We run a gluten-free vegan bakery that specializes in healthy, wholesome treats. Not only do we do baked goods, but we offer healthy delicious raw snacks. All of our raw items contain no nuts, most items are sweetened with stevia or dates, and are dehydrated under 110 degrees!

Let us do all the work for you (soaking, sprouting, blending, dehydrating, cleaning)…you just sit back and enjoy the tasty wholesome snack!! Our snack bites and crackers are the perfect  little travel size companions. Go ahead, it is okay to indulge ; ) Pure energy in every bite!

Snacks are great way to get you through a busy work day, running around town, or traveling.  Raw snacks are even better due to them being easier to digest. Because the last thing we want is to be slowed down while on the go 😉

Some of our favorite quick snacks are:

* Dates stuffed with coconut oil and spirulina
* Avocado with sea salt
* Mint Kremes  (available on our online store)
* Herb  and Pumpkin Kale Crackers (available on our online store) ; )
* Sauerkraut mixed in a jar with tahini
* Fresh or dried fruit
* Vega shakes or bars
* Kombucha

We are always munching on something!

Keeping your pantry stocked is a great way to be able to create snacks on the spot.

Here are just a few staples in our kitchen:

* Coconut oil and butter
* Medjool dates
* Chia seeds
* Coconut flakes
* Spices (our favorites are cinnamon, ginger, cardamon, basil, mint, coriander, turmeric)
* Cacao powder or carob
* Lemons
* Mesquite

Other great items to have on hand are any of your favorite dried fruits (apricots, raisins) and raw cacao nibs because they add great flavor and texture!   Over the weekend is a great time to soak and sprout your nuts and seeds for the week. And store them in glass jars in the fridge or freezer that way they are ready to go at any time.

So you can easily whip up something like this….

Pure2raw Sunflower Bliss Balls (Makes 24 small balls)

* 1 cup sunflower seeds, soaked and rinsed
* ½ cup coconut flakes or any nut flour, if you prefer
* a little over 1/3 cup dates, pitted, about 5-6

* 1-2 tbsp carob (depending if you like carob)
* 1 tsp vanilla
* 2 in twig of fresh rosemary
* 2 tbsp lemon zest

Blend in food processor till forms together. Then scoop and roll into balls.

Another flavor option we love is

* 1/2 tsp cardamon (instead of rosemary)
* 2 tbsp orange zest (instead of lemon)

This recipe is a great base and you can add your favorite flavorings! Have fun! Plus this recipe is for those of you who like a little less sweet snacks and more savory ones 🙂 Though if you would like it to be sweet just add in a few drops of stevia. Or you can use all nut flours instead of sunflower seeds.

A quick easy snack that is full of zinc, protein, and just the right amount of sugar for energy. We know Gena likes a mix of sweet and savory! This ball is perfect for that balance!

Enjoy! Stop by Pure2raw and say hello! We are always whipping something up ; )

Thanks again Gena!! And thanks again to all of your readers!!

  1. This was very yummy! Thank you so much. Excellent recipe to add to my collection.

  2. I love the idea of not using nuts in so many recipes. The sunflower bliss balls look delicious and Lori and Michelle, I just checked out your website. It looks great! I’m a new fan. 🙂

  3. How long will these keep? Do they need to be refrigerated? I am always trying to find snacks that I can keep at my desk, and these look delicious. Thanks.

    • Sara these should last a few weeks. We would recommend keeping the refrigerated for long shelf life, but keeping a few at your desk should be fine.

  4. So cool! I love the twins’ blog… and very interesting recipe. I would never have combined these flavors. Thanks!

  5. Gena your weekend sounds incredible and enjoy it as you have been so busy of late you definitely deserve it. 3 of my favourite bloggers all in one place here, oh I’ve been spoilt! Great ideas here with the balls, I could definitely use these as I a on the go ALL THE TIME. I reckon my passengers would even love these. I really love the idea of coconut oil in dates with spirulina too. I mean how did you come up with that?

    Have a great weekend all!

  6. I love the slightly savory flavorings you add to a sweet ball! I’m a lazy girl who likes others to do the work for me, so this is perfect, hee hee.
