Weekend Reading | The Full Helping

It’s been a busy, emotional weekend in general, but the big news is that I got my first vaccine dose today! I thought I’d have a lot to say about it, but I don’t. I’m overwhelmed and grateful—that’s about all there is to it.

As I was waiting in line for my shot, I thought about waiting on line to vote in October. That moment, like this one, felt hopeful. It gave me a glimpse of change, of something new. How appropriate that my first dose should fall on Easter Sunday, a day that celebrates the promise of life beginning again.

This is one of those Sundays when I need to spend more time feeling, less time writing. But it does feel important to put into words how indebted I feel to everyone who made the vaccine possible. We’ve come a long way since last April.

And without further ado, here are some recipes and reads.

A beautiful seeded sourdough from Amanda.

A colorful plate of blistered shishitos—with a fantastic looking cashew cilantro sauce—from Sher.

The coolest looking vegan deviled eggs!

A fun way to dress up my next Kite Hill ravioli splurge!

In honor of Easter, carrot cake cookies.

1. As a dietitian who specializes in EDs and disordered eating, I already know how hard this year has been for people with food struggles. But this article is a sobering reminder. Sending love to anyone out there who’s having a hard time.

2. The toll of remote work: loneliness. As someone who already struggles with working from home sometimes, this year has felt a lot more isolating.

3. La Verne Ford Wimberly of Tulsa, Oklahoma, has been attending virtual church services in style!

4. One writer’s complex, beautiful account of finding her voice as her mother lost hers to tongue cancer.

5. A fascinating examination of why animals don’t get lost.

My heart is grateful. A very happy Easter to anyone who celebrates today! I’ll be back tomorrow with a fresh spring salad.

Happy sunday morning, friends. I’m in New York, spending some time with my bestie, Chloe, who’s in town to help prepare for her little sister’s wedding. It’s been dry and sunny and not-too-hot here, which is a delightful change from last week’s heat wave in D.C. I hope you’ve had nice weekends. Here are some recipes and reads to enjoy as you transition into Monday. Coffee freak that I am, I’m sort of perpetually on the hunt for a perfect vegan coffee creamer….

On Friday, I looked up the Merriam-Webster definition of the word “grace.” The word has many meanings, and I think that I was fortunate enough to experience most of them in the past week. I received grace, the quality or state of being considerate or thoughtful, from dear friends who helped me when some painful memories unexpectedly surfaced. I experienced grace, a reprieve or temporary exemption, when the suffering I experienced as a result of those memories abated more quickly, and with more…
